What a thriller between the Flames and Avalanche last night, with Colorado rallying from a 2-0 third-period deficit to win 3-2 in OT and take a 3-1 series lead headed back to Calgary.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out this save below from Philipp Grubauer in OT that kept the game tied and allowed the Avs to eventually score the winner.
Fortunately, a thriller didn’t mean a high-scoring affair as we were able to cash the Under 6 and move to 7-4 in the playoffs for +2.7 units. Our Stars series handicap wager (+1.5) also got a nice boost with Dallas’ 5-1 romp over Nashville, squaring the series 2-2.
We’ll look to build on a decent start to the playoffs with one play tonight in Capitals/Hurricanes, although we’ve also got an opinion on the Knights/Sharks Game 5 tilt in San Jose.

We want a piece of the Capitals’ offense here tonight, even after Washington was blanked 5-0 in Game 3. Actually, we should say especially because Washington was blanked 5-0, since the Caps should be fired up to bounce back after being outshot 45-18 Monday. We were on the Caps Team Total Over 2.5 in that contest (a mistake in hindsight, given the desperation level of the Hurricanes down 0-2 in the series) because you’ll rarely find that type of bet available at low odds, and it is once again tonight. In fact, Washington TT Over 2.5 -128 was the first way we considered betting this game, and we recommend you consider it as well.
So why Over 6 instead of Caps TT over 2.5? Well, while we like Washington to score at least 3 tonight, we also see the potential for the Hurricanes to enjoy success offensively here as well. They’ve beaten Braden Holtby 10 times in the first 3 games of the series, and Holtby’s been a lot more vulnerable this year on the road (.903 save percentage, 3.07 GAA) than he has been at home (.918, 2.60). And going back to the regular season, Carolina’s scored at least 3 goals in 13 of its last 17 games at home. The Hurricanes’ offense can certainly run cold at times, but it’s clear that this team is playing with a lot of confidence offensively right now in its own rink.
With the Over 6 available at plus money (you should also be able to find Over 5.5 in the -125 to -130 range, but we prefer the +102 odds), we’ll cheer for offence from both teams in what should be a great affair tonight in Raleigh.
