It wasn’t easy for the St. Louis Blues last night, but they managed to wrestle home-ice advantage away from the Sharks with a 4-2 win in San Jose. St. Louis looked to be in full control early in the second period with a 2-0 lead, but a couple of quick goals by Conn Smythe Trophy favourite Logan Couture suddenly put the Blues in trouble. It was impressive to see St. Louis dig deep in a hostile environment and hold the Sharks scoreless the rest of the way en route to evening the series.
We’ll look to emulate the Blues’ reversal of fortunes tonight as we’ve hit our first turbulent stretch of the 2019 playoffs, losing our last three plays. Fortunately, tonight’s bet is one that we feel as strongly about as any that we’ve made in this postseason, and hopefully we can get back on the right track.
Good luck if you’re tailing along and enjoy the game.
Odds below are at the time we made the pick.

After watching the Hurricanes get their doors blown off Sunday afternoon in Boston, we know it’s not easy to lay any sort of price with Carolina. But if you can eliminate the recency bias from your mind, this moneyline looks like one heck of a bargain on a team that has been flat-out dominant at home for months.
How dominant? Well, let’s start with the playoffs, during which the Canes have outscored their opponents 22-7 en route to winning all five of their outings. Then let’s extend it back into the regular season, where you’ll notice the Hurricanes have won 21 of their last 27 in Raleigh while potting at least 4 goals in 9 of their last 16. This team plays with much more confidence at home, and we expect a supportive home crowd to play a role in helping Carolina turn this series around.
The Hurricanes aren’t going to throw in the towel, that’s for sure. They dug their way out of a similar 0-2 series hole in Round 1 against Washington, responding with a 5-0 romp in Game 3 of that series. They dug deep down the stretch of the regular season to get their way into the playoffs, going 23-9-1 in their final 33 games. And they’ve bounced back nicely from lopsided defeats recently, winning five of their last seven following a loss of 3+ goals. That includes a 5-2 home win over Washington after losing Game 5 by a 6-0 score, and it includes a 5-3 win in Nashville March 9 — one day after getting smoked 8-1 at home by Winnipeg.
With the Bruins on an 8-2 run in their last 10 games (with one of those losses coming in OT), it’s not easy to get in front of Boston right now either. But that’s why we get a discounted price here on the Canes, despite Carolina being in a circle-the-wagons spot. Boston’s most vulnerable on the road (24 wins and 23 losses this year) and could be forgiven for letting down a bit after outscoring the Hurricanes 11-4 in the first two games of this series. Finally, the Hurricanes’ two third-period goals Sunday may look meaningless turning a 6-0 score into a 6-2 final, but it might just give them a little bit of confidence offensively as they look to solve Tuukka Rask and the Bruins’ D tonight.
We’ve got some Hurricanes -0.5 +137 in our pocket tonight as well, and Carolina -1.5 +248 is probably worth a look too.
