We suffered an overtime loss in our only bet yesterday, with Chicago staving off elimination with a 4-3 double-OT win over the Blues.
St. Louis made an impressive rally in the third period, scoring twice to force overtime. However, the Blues had themselves to blame after they fell asleep a bit late in the second period and let the Blackhawks score with less than a second to go in the frame to take a 3-1 lead.
Last night might have been the Blues’ best chance to finally get past the Blackhawks. Chicago’s a -150 favourite to win Game 6, and then St. Louis has to deal with the pressures of a Game 7 against a hot Blackhawks squad. Also, Shaw’s back for the rest of the series, and Kane might get hot after scoring the OT winner in Game 5.
In other action last night, the Penguins blew the doors off the Rangers in New York, winning 5-0; the Lightning eliminated the Red Wings with a 1-0 win over Detroit; and the Ducks squared up their series with Nashville at 2-2 after a 4-1 win over the Preds.
Tonight, 3 more teams can advance to the second round. Washington is a -220 favourite over Philly and should take care of business; the Stars can put Minnesota away, but are -180 on the moneyline; and the Sharks are +120 underdogs as they try to oust the Kings in L.A.
We’ve had a bet on every game in the Islanders/Panthers series, and a 3-1 record in those games suggests we have a decent read on those teams. So we’re going to go for another winner in that matchup tonight. We have a really strong lean to the Islanders at +145 odds, since that just seems too high, but we’re going to go with the total instead.
Good luck with your bets.

Generating more offence is the biggest thing on Islanders coach Jack Capuano’s mind right now. “We got one line creating all of our offence right now,” he said after Game 4, referring to the top line of Tavares, Okposo and Nielsen. New York’s certainly capable of improving its attack (they had 5 goals in Game 1 and 4 goals in Game 3) and we like their chances of doing it tonight.
Florida’s scored 2 or more goals in 9 of its last 10 games. In their losses in this series, the Panthers scored 4 goals and 3 goals. Their offence hasn’t been an issue, and it seems pretty safe to expect at least a couple goals from Florida as well.
