NHL Betting Tips For Thursday, October 27

Jon and DerekWe lost our only bet yesterday as the Capitals lost 4-1 to the Oilers in Edmonton.

That was a big measuring stick game for the Oilers and we weren’t convinced they’d be ready for it. It was impressive how Edmonton answered right back after Ovechkin scored 9 seconds into the third period to cut the Oilers’ lead to 2-1. Patrick Maroon banged home a rebound just 1:16 later to put Edmonton back in control.

Tonight’s NHL schedule features 9 games, and we’re on 3 of them. Good luck tonight.

Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.

Game: Panthers @ Leafs
Time: 7:30PM ET
Pick: Panthers -103 (Pinnacle)

Florida opened as a -120 favourite but has been bet down to a pick ’em price as money apparently has come in on the Leafs. We like the value that’s opened on the Panthers as we can now get the far better team with the far better goalie at virtually even money.

The Leafs have outshot 4 of their first 6 opponents, and the 2 times they were outshot it was by 1 shot both times. Yet they have one victory to show for it all. That just illustrates the problems Toronto has in goal right now, especially tonight’s starter Frederik Andersen – who has admitted to having some mental struggles so far this year. Roberto Luongo starts for Florida after getting a rest Tuesday in Pittsburgh, and he’s off to a great start to the season with a 1.99 GAA and .922 save percentage through 4 games.

The Panthers blew a 2-0 lead Tuesday. If they get out to another early lead tonight, we expect them to keep it.

Predators Logo VS Pick Kings Logo
Game: Predators @ Kings
Time: 10:30PM ET
Pick: Over 5.5 +121 (BetOnline)

The last 10 times the Predators have played the Kings, the total was set at 5. Tonight, it’s 5.5, but we think the oddsmakers have raised it for good reason.

We’re not certain yet who’s starting in net for Nashville, but neither option seems like a good one at the moment. Pekka Rinne was yanked last night after allowing 4 goals on 17 shots to the Ducks, and backup Marek Mazanec wasn’t much better (2 goals on 9 shots).

The Kings also have goaltending issues in the absence of Jonathan Quick, and Peter Budaj is likely to get the start tonight.

These teams have been among the more defensive-minded teams in the NHL recently, but that hasn’t been the case this season. Nashville has gone Over in 4 of its first 5, and the Kings have gone Over in 4 of 6. We see potential for another high-scoring game for both teams here, so we’ll take a shot at the plus money return.
