We took yesterday off from posting writeups and leans to our site, but we posted a pick on Twitter that lost – Sharks First Period Moneyline over the Devils. San Jose outshot New Jersey 19-3 and had a 5-on-3 power play for nearly 2 full minutes, but somehow trailed 1-0 after the first period.
Saturday, we hit our fifth straight Best Bet winner (Canucks/Bruins Over 5) and went 6-5 overall, moving us to 35-26 (57%) for +6.1 units on all posted plays in February. It’s a good start as we shoot for our fourth straight winning month.
Calgary is the latest team to have its NHL bye week, definitely something to keep in mind as they host a “hot” Coyotes team tonight. We read today that NHL teams are 3-7-1 following their bye, which makes total sense. Not only do they not play for 5+ days, they don’t even practice!
It was also interesting to read that NHL teams are 15-5 in their final game before their bye. We thought that might be a letdown spot as players look forward to a few days on the beach and aren’t totally focused on their last game, but that has not been the case so far.
The only other game in the NHL tonight is Rangers at Blue Jackets, and it’s also the game we’ve circled as our favourite bet of the day. Good luck with whatever you bet tonight!

New York’s success on the road this year may be one of the better-kept secrets in the NHL. They are 18-7 on the road overall, and 17-5 in their last 22 away from home. They’re playing with a lot of confidence offensively right now, scoring 4+ goals in 5 of their last 6 games, and tonight they face a Jackets squad that has been a bit leaky defensively lately after such a strong start to the year.
Columbus has given up 3+ goals in 7 of its last 9 games, and the only 2 times the Jackets didn’t surrender at least 3 goals were both against the Red Wings. Columbus has also struggled to string wins together, going 1-7 in their last 8 games following a victory, and they’ve won just twice in regulation time over their last 9 games.
We initially wanted to take the Rangers outright here but the payout on the moneyline (+114) isn’t as large as we’d hoped. Instead, we’ll simply ask them to score 3 goals or more tonight. Even if they do, there’s a good chance they still lose the game as the Blue Jackets have scored 4 or more goals in all 3 previous meetings with New York this year and are 19-7-1 at home on the season. And while goaltending has been better lately for the Rangers, we’d still prefer to not have to rely on either Raanta (projected starter) or Lundqvist to win our bet.
