We went 1-2 last night, winning with the Penguins in regulation but losing with the Panthers and with the Over 5.5 in Nashville/LA.
It’s an interesting 6-game board tonight in the NHL. It’s hard to believe, but Carolina hasn’t played at home yet. They’ll host their home opener tonight against the Rangers, and we strongly considered the Hurricanes but the odds have dropped to the point where the value seems to be gone.
You’ve also got the Devils home to the Blackhawks. New Jersey is 3-0 at home and 0-3 on the road, and they’re +130 underdogs to a Blackhawks team that ranks 30th in the league in penalty killing and lost to Calgary at home in its most recent game. We lean New Jersey but not enough to play it. If you’re looking for action, Devils +0.5 in regulation at -140ish odds might not be a bad way to go.
Columbus is in a tough scheduling spot, playing for the second straight night and 3rd time in 4 nights as they close a 4-game road trip in Anaheim. But the Ducks are also playing their 3rd time in 4 nights and are huge favourites, which was enough to scare us off Anaheim.
We’re just going with 1 bet tonight. Good luck if you’re tailing along.

Brutal scheduling spot here for the Jets. Not only are they playing the second night of a back-to-back, their 3rd game in 4 nights and their 4th game in 6 nights, but they also have to do it in the high altitude of Denver. It’s apparently hard enough to catch your breath in the thin air when you’re not used to it – just imagine trying to do it when you’re already tired. Winnipeg is also likely playing without Drew Stafford.
Meanwhile, the Avalanche couldn’t be more rested. They haven’t played since Saturday, when they concluded a 4-game road trip with a loss to Florida. Colorado coach Jared Bednar has told reporters that the week off has been good for his team, and they’ve got a couple of players back from injury now as well. We’re a little concerned that it might be too long of a break, but if the Avs are rusty hopefully they can shake it off early and then take advantage of a Winnipeg team that should only get more tired as the game goes on.
The Jets play again Sunday afternoon versus Buffalo, which will be their 5th game in 8 days. If the Avalanche can get up a couple of goals early, we may see Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice limit the ice time of some of his top players in order to keep them as fresh as possible for a winnable game on Sunday. The ingredients look in place for a Colorado blowout, and we suggest taking a piece of the -1.5 puck line at +175 return or higher as well.
