NHL Betting Tips For Tuesday, April 5

Jon and DerekWe dropped our only bet of the day yesterday as the Lightning lost to the Islanders.

We’d noticed Tavares lighting up his teammates in the media after a 5-0 loss at home to the Penguins Saturday, but weren’t sure how they would react, and also liked the angle of Tampa players stepping up in the absence of Stamkos. The Islanders reacted pretty positively to Tavares’ rare rant, however.

There are 11 games on the ice tonight, and we feel like we’ve got some good angles on a lot of matchups.

Boston’s obviously desperate for a victory right now, but there’s no way the Bruins should be laying -200 against anyone, even the Hurricanes. 4 of their last 5 games against Carolina have been decided by a goal, and the Canes won in Boston earlier this month. We were very close to taking Carolina +1.5 but didn’t like the -160 juice.

Colorado looks to be dead in the water. Patrick Roy threw Duchene under the bus the other night for celebrating his 30th goal of the season when the Avs were down 4-1, and there seems to be a lot of unhappy campers in Colorado right now. We fully expect a Nashville victory tonight but can’t lay -200 with a struggling Predators team.

We passed on both those leans, but have 4 picks for tonight. Good luck with whatever you bet.

Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.

Game: Panthers @ Canadiens

Pick: Over 5.5 +118 (BetOnline)

Florida’s averaging 3.5 goals per game offensively in its last 10. They’re also allowing a lot more goals than usual right now, which explains why they haven’t gone under the total in 10 games.

The Habs seem to be playing a more wide-open style right now as the season winds to a close. There’s been 7 goals scored in 5 of their last 6 games, including a 4-3 loss in Florida 3 days ago. The Over is 5-1 in Montreal’s last 6 and 17-6-9 in Florida’s last 32, so we just need those trends to continue for one more night.

Game: Sharks @ Wild
Time: 8:00PM ET
Pick: Sharks +104 (Pinnacle)

San Jose’s already clinched a playoff spot and is a longshot to win the Pacific Division, but this is still a big game for the Sharks. They can set a franchise record for most wins on the road with a victory tonight, and coach Peter DeBoer said his players are eager to finish with the best road record in the NHL.

Minnesota’s struggling to the finish line, losing 3 straight games.  There hasn’t been much desperation in their game lately because they’ve basically locked up a playoff spot. Players are saying the right things about needing to turn things around in time for the playoffs, but that’s easier said than done.

Penguins Logo VS Pick Senators Logo
Game: Penguins @ Senators
Time: 7:30PM ET
Pick: Penguins -1 -107 (Pinnacle)

We’re just looking to ride the hot streak of the Penguins, who have now won 12 of 13 since Malkin was injured and with Fleury sidelined due to a concussion. They’ve outscored their opponents 16-4 in their last 3 games, and Matt Murray seems to be the latest goalie to break into the NHL with a bang (7-2-1 with a 1.88 GAA in 10 starts).

It doesn’t seem like too much to ask for them to win this game by 2 or more, with the ability to push if they win by 1 goal or in OT/shootout, and it’s close to even odds.
