We went 0-1 last night as the Canadiens stunned the Capitals 4-3 in Washington and the game went Over 5.5.
Last night was one of those nights when a lot of people lost their shirts. In addition to Washington’s loss to Montreal, the Avalanche edged a hot Sharks team in OT and the Ducks only beat the Sabres 1-0, likely costing people a lot of Anaheim -1.5 puck line bets.
We’ve been going with just 1 or 2 picks a night lately, but we have 3 for tonight – including 1 with a huge underdog price.
Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.
The Islanders are one of the hotter teams in the NHL right now, winning 6 of their last 8. We were impressed with how convincingly they defeated the Wild Tuesday in Minnesota, and liked what we saw from Halak in that game.
Calgary’s lost 5 of 6 and seems to be going through the motions right now. Even though Joni Ortio looked good in net against the Kings Tuesday and is starting again tonight, the Flames have little confidence in their goaltending. There’s also several players rumoured to be on the trade block, which is always a distraction. We expect the Islanders to continue their recent roll tonight.

Can’t ask for a better spot to bet on the Blackhawks. They got pounded 6-1 on national TV last time out (the outdoor game against Minnesota) and have had 4 days to think about it. They’ve also been struggling lately and St. Louis is on their heels in the Central Division, so coach Quenneville should have his players’ complete attention tonight.
We get a cheap price here because Nashville’s been red hot on the road (7-0-2 last 9), but the Predators could be without Weber tonight. They’ve also lost their last 5 trips to Chicago, and are playing their 3rd game in 4 nights. This line dropped from the opener to what looks like a bargain on the Hawks tonight.

Can’t make much of an argument to bet on the Jets these days. They’ve had a tough schedule lately with this being their 7th road game in their last 9. They’re also dealing with trade talk distractions, these ones surrounding heart-and-soul captain Andrew Ladd.
Dallas snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 5-3 win in Winnipeg Tuesday and has won all 4 meetings with the Jets this year. They’re in a 3-team race with Chicago and St. Louis for first in the Central, so complacency shouldn’t be an issue.
We’ll shoot for the big return here on the puck line because 23 of Dallas’s 38 wins have come by 2 goals or more, and 26 of Winnipeg’s 34 losses have come by 2 goals or more. In other words, if Dallas wins, it looks likely that it’ll be by 2 or more goals. There’s always risk in -1.5 puck line bets but getting +165 instead of -180 makes it worth it to us.
