After an unsustainably hot start to the season, we’ve treaded water over the past week, including a 1-1 split (with a push) on Tuesday’s plays.
There are nine games tonight in the NHL, breakdowns and opinions are below (we emailed out our personal 3-game card to Site Supporters this morning).
Before we get to those below, we’ve been getting a few emails about why we often decide to play the half puck in regulation instead of the full game moneyline.
It’s a great question.
We tend to play a lot more +0.5 in regulation than we do taking the full game moneyline because we hate losing games in OT and we prefer to bring down the variance a bit.
Take the Sharks game below for an example. If you bet it, you’re getting half a puck (meaning if they go to OT you win the bet).
You could alternatively play the +145 full game moneyline and see similar value over time.
You’re just going to endure losing some OT games. You’ll hit some too, though, so your long term ROI should be similar whether you play the +0.5 or the full game moneyline.
Good luck on whatever you play tonight!
