We dropped our only bet yesterday as the Wild continued to puzzle the Blackhawks, beating Chicago 3-2 in a shootout.
Chicago did battle back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a point, but that situation shaped up perfectly for the Blackhawks and they didn’t get the job done. It’s crazy how this team looked so dominant a couple of months ago, then added Ladd at the deadline and now is stumbling towards the playoffs.
There are just 4 games tonight on the ice, and they all seem like toss-ups. Instead of trying to pick a team that will win tonight, we’re going with a total and cheering for goals.
Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.
The Panthers have long been one of the most boring teams in hockey to watch, but that’s changed recently. Florida hasn’t gone Under the total in a game this month, and the Panthers rank 10th in the NHL in scoring. They’ve scored 3 goals or more in 6 of their last 7 games, and allowed 3 or more in 6 of their last 9.
New York’s also playing higher-scoring games lately, going Under just once in their last 9. The Blueshirts allowed 52 shots in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Sharks. Their penalty kill is near the bottom of the NHL at 77.3%.
Both teams are desperate for points here and if one team is trailing in the third period, we might see their coach pull the goalie for an extra attacker earlier than usual. We’ve seen that more lately in the NHL, with teams pulling their goalie with as many as 3 or 4 minutes to go if they’re down by 2, and that increases the likelihood of another goal towards this total.
With the defensive issues both teams are having right now, we expect each team to get a couple of goals tonight. If they each get to 3, or one gets to 4, we should be able to cash this ticket.
