We went 1-1 last night, winning with the Capitals on the puck line and losing with the Rangers who let a 1-0 third-period lead slip away in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders. It was another good, hard-fought Battle of New York. It’d be awesome if these 2 teams ever met in the playoffs.
On to tonight, where we have 3 NHL betting tips for the 6 games in action. We also thought pretty hard about tipping the Leafs to beat the Blackhawks, but decided not to stand in the way of a Chicago team that has won 9 in a row. The odds on the Leafs (+115 at Bodog) suggest the oddsmakers think that streak might just end tonight, though.
Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.
Carolina’s playing some very good hockey lately, but this line is a bit out of whack. It’s not often you see the Hurricanes as favourites in the -150 range, and that’s what they are tonight, opening up some serious value on the Canucks. Vancouver seems to keep every game close (they were even within striking range of the Capitals most of the night last night) and they should be able to at least get this game into OT, at which point it’s a coin toss.
Vancouver has owned the Canes in the past few years, winning the last 5 meetings by a combined score of 15-5. Carolina is playing its 5th game in 7 nights and might not come out desperate after winning last night in St. Louis. It’s not often we’ll make an underdog our Best Bet because they’re less likely to win than a favourite, but this is anybody’s game tonight and we’ll put 2 units on it because of the great line value we’re catching.

Minnesota is a -200 favourite on the moneyline in this game, and it’s for good reason. Winnipeg has lost its last 7 games when playing the second of back-to-back nights, while the Wild is 7-2 in its last 9 when coming off consecutive losses. We can expect a focused effort from Minny tonight as they look to avoid their fourth straight loss at home.
The Jets got a big victory last night at home, but we can’t pretend all is well in Winnipeg now. They blew a 4-1 lead against the Predators and needed an OT goal from Wheeler to avoid a total collapse. If they couldn’t hold a 3-goal lead at home, we don’t trust them to protect any lead they might get in Minnesota tonight. We like the Wild to take care of business in regulation time at a short price in what’s a good spot for Minnesota and a bad one for the Jets.

This line is based on the season records of these teams, not who’s playing the best hockey right now. Dallas has won just 1 road game in its last 8 tries, while the Ducks finally appear to have gotten rolling. We can’t forget that the Stars didn’t even make the playoffs last year while Anaheim has been a perennial playoff team. Maybe things are starting to even out a bit now.
We’ve been reading the Dallas newspapers and seeing a lot of players being critical of their own play and of their teammates. This isn’t a happy dressing room right now, and we don’t think it helps that they’ve had since Saturday to think about things. This might be more of a bet against the Stars than a bet on the Ducks, but we’ll take Anaheim at home tonight at nearly even odds.
