NHL Betting Tips For Thursday, January 7

jon_derek (1)We enjoyed a good night last night, winning our Best Bet on Colorado and pushing on our other bet, the Carolina/Vancouver Under 5.

The Avalanche continued its recent strong play by coming back to defeat the Blues in OT. It was the second straight game St. Louis has blown a third-period lead, and the Blues have now lost 4 in a row.

We were looking good to win our other bet as well, but the Hurricanes and Canucks scored 4 goals in the final 22 minutes to push on the Under 5.

Let’s see if we can do even better with a 2-0 night tonight!

Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.

VS Pick
Game: Flyers @ Wild
Time: 8:00PM ET
Pick: Wild -0.5 (regulation win) -105 (BetOnline)

We’ll go with the Wild in regulation here since they’re playing so well defensively these days (12 goals against in last 7 games) and the Flyers are 0-4-1 in their last 5 on the road with 8 goals scored in those games. A bet we like just as much is the Wild to win the 1st period, which we bet at BetOnline at -145 odds. Minny averages half a goal more per first period at home than it allows, and the Flyers average half a goal less per first period on the road than they allow. It makes for a 1-0 or 2-0 Wild lead after 1, and if the score is tied after the 1st period, we’ll push our bet.

VS Pick
Game: Capitals @ Islanders
Time: 7:00PM ET
Pick: Over 5 -133 (Pinnacle)

Two decent offences here and the Caps haven’t been quite as good defensively without Carlson, or on the road. We just need both teams to get to 2 goals tonight to guarantee a push at worst, which makes it worth a shot at this price.
