We got a dominant effort from the Penguins last night to not only cash our bet on the Pens to win the game but also help our -1.5 bet on the series.
Pittsburgh actually started slowly but made up for things in the final two periods, blitzing the Lightning net with 48 shots and building a 4-1 lead before winning 4-2. Kessel continued to emerge as a contender for the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, collecting 2 points to pull into 3rd in playoff scoring behind San Jose’s Couture and Burns.
The shots on net in the series are now 124-69. It’s looking like the Lightning may finally be running out of gas without Stamkos. Pittsburgh is already a favourite of as high as -155 for Game 4 Friday.
The Western Conference final returns tonight with the series tied 1-1, but San Jose looking like the superior team so far.

Like last night with the Penguins -130 in some spots despite being the visiting team, this line looks a bit high at first glance. But then you look at how the Sharks are playing right now (5 wins by 3+ goals in their last 10), how the Blues are playing right now, and how San Jose has turned things around at home (5 straight wins, by a combined score of 21-7). Suddenly, the price doesn’t look out of whack any more.
Just as the Lightning seems to be running out of steam right now, the same could be true of the Blues. They had to go 7 games in each of their first 2 series, and that inevitably catches up with teams. The Sharks also went 7 last round against Nashville, but they took care of the Kings in 5 games in the first round and got a few days off before facing the Predators.
We like the Sharks to grab a 2-1 series lead tonight with a win at home.
