We won our only bet last night as the Panthers evened their first-round series against New York with a 2-1 win over the Islanders.
Florida came through with a very disciplined defensive effort, the type of game you need to play to win on the road in the playoffs. Petrovic isn’t exactly known as a goal scorer, but we liked the hesitation move he put on Greiss before putting the game-winner away midway through the third.
Derek and Jon were on opposite sides of that series, the only one we disagreed on in Round 1. (By the way, those picks are doing pretty well, with the Red Wings and Ducks as the only teams currently losing their series.) Derek looks to be in the driver’s seat with the Panthers having taken back home-ice advantage, but Jon still feels pretty good about the Islanders’ chances, especially at the +135 price he got.
The Flyers tripped up a few people last night, coming up with an impressive effort to avoid being swept by the Capitals. The Sharks took a 3-1 series lead on the Kings, and the Stars can eliminate Minnesota in Game 5 after downing the Wild 3-2.
On to tonight, with 4 more games slated. We lean to the Penguins to continue their roll with Murray in net, but the Rangers can be a dangerous bunch with their backs to the wall. Tampa should eliminate Detroit but we won’t pay -155 odds to see them do it, and the Ducks/Predators clash is priced about right (pretty much even odds) in our opinion.
We’re going with 1 pick again tonight. Good luck with your plays.

This line just seems a little short to us. The Blackhawks are a popular team with championship pedigree and many will expect them to magically elevate their game to avoid elimination, but we’re not sure they can. Chicago’s been a pretty mediocre team for a couple of months now, and St. Louis fully deserves to have a 3-1 lead in this series. Add in the Andrew Shaw suspension, which could be a distraction in addition to missing a valuable forward, and the Blackhawks appear to be in tough.
Ordinarily, you might fear complacency in the Blues being up 3-1 and headed home. However, this is a St. Louis team that has had its playoff issues in the past and should know to take nothing for granted, especially against the Blackhawks. We were really impressed with their poise during the third periods of both tight games in Chicago. They seem like a very confident bunch, and we’ll take our chances on them finishing off the Hawks at this short price.
