Our Stanley Cup final bet on the Sharks took a bit of a setback Monday in Game 1 as the Penguins scored late in the third period to claim a 3-2 victory.
San Jose started slowly in its first-ever appearance in the Stanley Cup final, looking like a deer in the headlights in the first period as Pittsburgh grabbed an early 2-0 lead. The Sharks came on in the second, however, tying the game before the intermission. Even though the Penguins fired 41 shots on the Sharks net, it was anybody’s game to win – and that’s what we were thinking when we took the underdog Sharks to win the series.
We’re taking San Jose for the same reason tonight. Good luck with whatever you bet on.

The Sharks allowed a playoff high in shots last game and have vowed to be better defensively. They’re also 5-1 coming off a loss in these Cup playoffs and seem likely to be the more desperate team tonight. Nerves shouldn’t be an issue in the early going and hopefully San Jose won’t have to dig itself out of a big hole again tonight.
Pittsburgh could be without Bryan Rust tonight after he got his bell rung in Game 1. That might not seem like that big a deal if Rust hadn’t scored 4 of Pittsburgh’s last 10 goals, including both of the Pens’ goals in Game 7 last round versus Tampa. And the Penguins aren’t invincible at home these days, going 2-2 last round against the Lightning and needing a late goal to beat the Sharks in Game 1. San Jose has won many road games this season and we think they’ve got a good shot at collecting their biggest road win of the year tonight.
