NHL Betting Tips For Wednesday, January 4

Jon and DerekWe dropped our Best Bet yesterday on the Oilers/Blue Jackets Over 5.5 as Columbus continued its incredible roll, defeating Edmonton 3-1 for their 16th straight victory.

Our leans on the other games went 3-2 with a push. We’ll gladly take an overall 3-3-1 record on a night when underdogs ruled, winning 5 of the 7 contests – including the Sabres stunning the Rangers 4-1 in New York and the Kings crowning the Sharks 2-1 in San Jose.

In other action, Shea Weber scored a big goal for Montreal in his return to Nashville, and the Capitals overcame a 2-goal deficit in the 3rd period to hand the Leafs a 6-5 OT loss. It all made for a pretty interesting night.

It’s a rare busy Wednesday in the NHL with 6 games on the card. Interestingly, all of them have an Over/Under of 5.5. If you’re thinking Over for any of those games, don’t forget that you’ll either need 1 team to win by 2+ goals (which doesn’t happen that often in the NHL anymore) or both teams to score at least 3. (We actually posted an article yesterday on what a huge difference there is between betting Over 5 and Over 5.5 in the NHL.)

Our favourite bet of the day is below, followed by stats, trends and leans for the other 5 matchups.

Good luck!
