NHL Betting Tips For Tuesday, January 16

Jon and DerekThere are just 6 games in the NHL tonight as the league holds its second wave of CBA-mandated bye weeks.

The well-known pattern of teams struggling in their first game back from the bye week has continued so far this year. Vegas and Arizona both lost their first game back from the bye over the weekend, while the Sharks barely avoided a loss to Arizona Saturday night, tying the game in the final seconds of regulation and then winning in overtime.

Nashville is in the first-game-back-from-a-bye situation tonight as it hosts the Golden Knights,  although the oddsmakers seem to have factored the bye week trends into the betting line in that game. Also tonight, the Blues and Maple Leafs play their first games in nearly a week when they face each other in Toronto.

Personally, we hope the league decides to scrap the bye week next season. Even if there’s some money to be made fading teams coming out of their byes, all this time off interrupts the flow of the season and makes the first few games out of the byes hard to handicap. It seems even sillier when you consider that most of the players will get some time off again in a couple of weeks when the league shuts down for the all-star break.

We’re going with a pair of Unders in tonight’s action. You can check them out below, along with breakdowns and opinions for the other games on the Tuesday board. Good luck!
