NHL Betting Tips For Thursday, October 12

Jon and DerekWe suffered our first loss of the NHL betting season last night as the Capitals lost the first period 1-0 to Pittsburgh. 3 penalties didn’t help Washington’s cause, but the Pens also deserve some credit for beating a Capitals squad that had to want revenge for last year’s playoff defeat.

Our leans went 2-0 for the second straight night as the Devils didn’t even need the +0.5 in regulation in an upset of the Leafs, and the Coyotes and Bruins combined for 9 goals to sail over the 5.5 total.

Scoring continues to be high around the NHL, but so do power plays. We expect scoring to slow down soon, but until it does, the Over seems to make sense in pretty much every matchup you look at right now.

We’ve got 1 bet for tonight as well as 3 strong opinions. You can find them all below, along with breakdowns of each of the 7 matchups on tonight’s NHL schedule.

Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.

  • The Under is 3-1-2 in the last 6 meetings

Probable goalies: Hellebuyck (confirmed), Markstrom

Sabres Logo VS Pick Sharks Logo
Game: Sabres @ Sharks Lean
Time: 10:30PM ET
Lean: Sabres +0.5 (regulation time) -115

Reasons to bet Buffalo: The Sabres aren’t intimidated by visiting the Sharks, having won 5 of their last 6 trips to San Jose and 10 of the last 12 meetings overall. San Jose is already 0-2 at home, allowing 9 goals in those 2 games.
