We pushed our only bet last night, which was on the Islanders and Wild to go Over 5. New York scored a late empty-netter to make the score 4-1 and save us a loss on that bet.
We’re much less reluctant to bet Over 5 than 5.5 right now because of how early coaches are pulling their goalies when they’re down 2 goals.
Not sure if you guys have noticed but there’s been a few empty-netters lately with 3 minutes or more to go. We’ve even seen some coaches pull their netminders for an extra attacker with 7 or 8 minutes left in regulation lately. It’s that time of year when every point matters and coaches will pull out all the stops, not caring if they lose 4-1 instead of 3-1.
There are 4 games tonight, and it’s another tough board. The Capitals and Ducks are both huge favourites, but we can’t lay 1.5 goals with either team because Montreal and Washington have both been playing a lot of 1-goal games lately and the Ducks are in a flat spot against the lowly Sabres.
Penguins/Bruins and Sharks/Avalanche should both be good games to watch but we don’t like the odds in those games either. We lean to the Penguins but not enough to bet them, and we think the Sharks will win but don’t want to lay -140 or higher on them.
One bet for tonight – the Under in Washington.

Not so sure this is a “max intensity” spot for the Capitals. They just became the first team to win 44 of its first 58 games, and everyone expects them to handle Montreal easily tonight. We don’t see the motivation to beat the hell out of the Habs here, which could keep their goal count down.
The Canadiens are going through the motions a bit as well. They’re 9-25 in their last 34 games, and probably terrified about getting blown out by the Capitals. We expect Montreal to play things close to the vest defensively, and they likely won’t score many goals themselves against Holtby and the league’s second-best defence.
We’re a little surprised the total is 5.5 for this one instead of 5. But we’ll gladly take the extra half goal, knowing a 3-2 or 4-1 game can cash our ticket instead of push it.
