We went 1-0 yesterday, finally catching a few breaks as the Rangers and Panthers went Over 5 with a pair of goals in the final minute.
Florida scored on a 6-on-4 with the goalie pulled and 37 seconds left in regulation to make the score 3-2, but New York responded with an empty-netter right after that to take a 4-2 lead and send the game Over.
It’s hard to say the Over 5 was the right side, but we’ve lost our share of right sides lately and will gladly take it. Besides, Florida had a goal earlier in the game waved off due to a supposed high stick that didn’t look that way on replay but was ruled inconclusive, and there were a couple goal posts hit during the game as well.
On to tonight, where there is a full board of games scheduled. We have strong leans on the Coyotes, Sabres and the Ducks/Canadiens Under, but are going with just 2 picks today.
Odds below are at the time we made the pick. Be sure to check out our live odds page for updated odds on today’s games.
The Wild burned us Sunday in Chicago but we’re still not convinced that Minnesota deserves the respect it’s getting from oddsmakers. Minny has just 1 win in regulation time in its last 8 games, relying on shootouts to get its other 3 wins during that stretch. This isn’t a team that is elevating its game during a playoff push, it’s a squad that has been a little lucky lately. It’s also a club that has 4 wins in its last 15 home games, so we’re not intimidated betting against them at home.
LA should come into tonight’s game in a bad mood. The Kings allowed an unKinglike 5 goals last night in Nashville, and they typically rebound well from poor defensive performances, winning 4 of their last 5 contests when allowing 5+ goals in their last game. 2 points are important for LA right now as they try to fend off Anaheim and San Jose for the Pacific Division title. We’re going with the Kings here, but we wouldn’t try to talk you out of the Under 5 as well.

Vancouver’s the lowest-scoring team in the West and averaging just over 2 goals per game in its last 22. The Canucks have been blanked in their last 2 games. We don’t think we should ever see a 5.5 total in a Canucks game. The numbers back us up, with Vancouver going Under the total in 17 of the 23 games when their total has been set at 5.5.
Winnipeg’s not a whole lot better offensively right now, collecting 3 goals in its last 3 contests. The Jets lit up Vancouver for 5 goals last week but we think that will only motivate the Canucks to play better defence, especially since they gave up 50 shots Saturday against St. Louis.
The injury reports for these 2 teams are a mile long. There hasn’t been a lot of life in either squad lately, and they just seem to be playing out the string. With 2 struggling power plays (Vancouver’s 0 for 23, and Winnipeg’s 1 for its last 28), we don’t see where the goals come from tonight.
