Unlucky 0-2 for us last night as the Leafs/Islanders went Over 5.5 and the Blackhawks lost to the Blues in a shootout.
We say unlucky because the Leafs/NYI game was 2-2 with 6 minutes left in regulation and both teams were playing defensive-minded hockey. But then a long pass sprung Strome for a breakaway goal that barely crossed the line, putting New York up 3-2, and the Leafs tied the game with 1:13 left on a 6-on-4 with the goalie out.
The Blackhawks thought they’d beaten the Blues in overtime but their goal was disallowed for goalie interference. St. Louis then prevailed in a 6-round shootout that was actually pretty entertaining to watch, win or lose.
Interesting note about last night: 5 of the 6 games went to overtime. It’s that time of year where points are extremely important and there isn’t much separation between the teams. That suggests there should be more value on underdogs. We’re not betting on the Hurricanes or Oilers tonight, but wouldn’t be surprised if either won as big road dogs.
2 picks for tonight. Good luck with whatever you play.

Montreal’s finally playing some wide-open games lately. They’ve scored 2 or more goals in 7 straight, and they’ve gone Under just twice in that span. The Habs have a banged-up blue line, and Condon and Scrivens aren’t likely to stonewall the opposition, so it’s not a huge surprise they’ve allowed 19 goals in their last 5.
The Sabres have seen 27 goals scored in their last 4 games (nearly 7 per contest) and seem to be playing a more offensive style as well. This game might lack a bit of defensive intensity as both teams are realistically out of the playoff picture. And in their 3 meetings already this season, there’s been an average of 7.3 goals scored. A little surprised the number on this game isn’t 5.5, but we’ll bite on the 5 and hope each team scores at least twice.

Even though they had that long winning streak a couple of months ago, the Panthers are no lock for the playoffs. They seem to be feeling the pressure a bit lately, winning just 1 of their last 6 games. Yet, they’re heavy favourites at home to the Senators.
Ottawa’s a playoff longshot itself but still fighting hard, collecting points in 4 of its last 6. The Sens were less than a second away from a win the other night in Carolina, and we just need them to get into OT again tonight to cash this ticket at nearly even odds. (Pinnacle Sports is one of several sportsbooks we use that offers the regulation +0.5, or you can play Ottawa and the Tie on the double chance if your book doesn’t offer that line.)
